What is the Groeien met Groen Staal (GGS) consortium?
The GGS is a consortium of universities, research institutes, and industrial partners working towards the common goal of CO₂-neutral steel production by 2050. To reach this goal we need accelerated and creative innovation. The GGS consortium’s approach is to consider the whole value chain of iron and steel as it makes its way through the economy. This includes how green steel is produced, processed, used, recovered, and integrated into society. It represents a national transition towards a more sustainable future by facing technological, industrial, and societal challenges.
Ex Mente’s role in the GGS consortium
As part of the production theme in the GGS programme, Ex Mente is supporting Tata Steel Netherlands in designing and developing a next-generation ironmaking process to replace the blast furnace. We have been tasked with developing computationally efficient pyrometallurgical models that enable our partners to simulate, test, and refine new ironmaking technologies more quickly and effectively than traditional methods allow.
Consortium meeting – May
The twice annual GGS consortium meeting facilitates collaboration and knowledge sharing between all the partners. Generally, the meetings provide a platform to discuss progress, address challenges, and align on future direction, resulting in synergy between partners involved in various aspects of the project. A key focus of the consortium meetings is to exchange ideas, as well as build stronger relationships with partners working toward a greener future.
The Ex Mente way
We build trust by openly sharing our progress and engaging with partners on their technical challenges. We aim to serve our partners by seeking ways to help them succeed, even if this falls outside our formal scope. We also work to connect the dots between different partners, enabling better collaboration and a more integrated, effective team of individuals.
